I'm Jasmine, and I'm thrilled to welcome you. This blog revolves around my life, my experiences, and my journey. I understand it might sound a bit cliché, as there are plenty of blogs about people's life journeys. I get it! I won't hold it against you if you decide not to return. However, who knows what you might miss if you don't come back.
As a single mother, I am homeschooling my children, working full-time, and bravely sharing my journey while striving to become a successful entrepreneur.
I am the creator and founder of Blissfully Melanated. The name came to me as if by magic and has stayed with me ever since. I absolutely love it! Blissfully Melanated began as a hobby, where I made hair and skincare products for my children and myself. It all started with my son's eczema. My poor child was really struggling. We spent nine months visiting dermatologists, and it seemed that every topical ointment they prescribed caused new breakouts on different parts of his body. As a mother, you can imagine how heartbroken I was to see my child suffering and becoming insecure. He was literally covered in scabs, rashes, and hives from head to toe. He would scratch until he bled, and then scratch even more.
The dermatologist appeared shocked each time we visited. He was attending bi-weekly appointments due to the severity of his condition. After numerous unsuccessful attempts with the dermatologist, I ultimately chose to handle the situation myself.
I explored natural butters and oils along with their benefits. I discovered some natural butters I hadn't known about before. They were somewhat pricey, but I was willing to invest anything for my baby. I couldn't bear to see him suffer any longer. Fortunately, I found the butters on Amazon and received them fairly quickly. You might be curious, "what were the butters"? Bacuri butter, ucuuba butter, cupuacu butter, and black seed oil. I concentrated more on bacuri butter, ucuuba butter, and black seed oil for his skin as they had the highest ratings for skin improvement. I also used neroli essential oil. Generally, with sensitive skin, you avoid essential oils, but neroli essential oil has skin regenerative properties.
I combined butter, oil, and a few drops of neroli essential oil to make a skin-healing butter. We applied it in the same manner as the ointments prescribed by the dermatologist. In the first week, we used the butter (which was technically a salve since I was new to the process and improvising) three times daily. In the second week, we applied it once or twice a day. By the third week, we used it as needed. By then, my baby's skin was radiant! He had a golden brown complexion and felt great about himself, which I loved because he finally regained his confidence.
From there, I posted his results on my Facebook. I was simply amazed by the outcomes and couldn't resist sharing them. I wasn't even considering turning it into a business. At that point, I didn't have a name for the butter/salve either. However, once I shared the results, comments and messages flooded in, asking if I sold this product, with people sharing their skin issues and wondering if this miracle butter could help them too. I'm not exaggerating—someone actually called it a miracle butter. I believe it was so effective because I crafted it with love and was very intentional throughout the entire process. I also took my time and didn't rush it.
I attempted to provide people with the recipe so they could make it on their own, but they insisted on buying it instead. A few days later, the name Blissfully Melanated appeared to me in a dream, and that's when I decided on the name for my business. The name for the butter followed soon after, as it was self-explanatory to me since it genuinely healed my son's skin and scalp.
Thus, it was named the Skin Healing Butter.
At this point, I had been following a plant-based lifestyle for nearly two years. It all began to make sense when I understood that Blissfully Melanated is more than just a business; it represents a way of life—my life.
Bliss is defined as perfect happiness or great joy. Melanated refers to having skin with a high level of melanin, a dark brown pigment that determines skin color.
Thus, Blissfully Melanated. Completely content in my sun-kissed dark brown skin. Embracing my true self is my greatest happiness, and it enables my children to be genuine as well.
Authenticity acts like a positive contagion. This is how I perceive Blissfully Melanated. The infectious energy of living my life authentically influences others, encouraging them to pursue happier and healthier lives. This energy is infused into everything I create with Blissfully Melanated. I firmly believe our intentions shape the world we choose to inhabit. Therefore, I avoid creating when my energy is low, as I don't wish to transfer that to a loved one, client, or customer.
It's amusing how reflecting on my journey led me to reconsider some aspects and choose to return to the basics. I'm uncertain why there's such pressure to alter things that don't require change. Perhaps it's due to the rapidly evolving commercial market. Whatever the cause, I'm here to say that returning to the basics is perfectly fine. Often, the basics are what save us. Before I veer off into a different topic, thank you for reading my very first blog post. There's much more ahead. I'm eager to share my journey with all of you.
